..........Brice Phillips and Christen Stack started WQRZ 102.3 - LP in 2003. It's a Low Power Community Broadcast radio service.
..........The day before the storm Brice moved his important radios and Antennas to the Emergency Command Center to help with Ham Radio communications and set up his FM Broadcast Station to relay important information on 103.5 -LP. On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina Hit the gulf coast like a thousand giant bulldozers and destroyed everything in its path. All of the power and communications was knocked out and the only link to the outside world was with Ham Radio , limited cell phone and satellite phones.
..........The Police and Fire department communications were out so messages were relayed on WQRZ 102.3 in order to help search and rescue teams. The Emergency Command Center had to move three times because of the storm damage so Brice had to relocate all of his equipment every time they moved.
