.......... Daytona Beach has a
long history of racing. Motorcycles and cars raced on the combined beach - road coarse from the early
1900's until the Late 1950's when the Daytona Beach Speedway was built. The Beach track started on A1A highway ran for a
half mile then turned onto the beach for a half mile run, then back onto the road,
this was a unique course and the only one in the United States. Racing teams from all over the country would come to compete in the warm sun and race on this unique track.
........... In the 1950s the racing
in Daytona Beach became so popular that it was time to build a race coarse to accommodate
the large crowds of fan's and the faster speeds
of the race cars and motorcycles. In 1959 the new Daytona international Speedway
was built.
